Open Fire Cooking Workshop

Whet your appetite for open fire cooking! Enjoy a five course meal that you have prepared throughout the day, along with learning such things as choosing and caring for cast iron cookware, various cooking techniques, fire wood selection and curing, recipes and more. This workshop will be open to anyone 12 years and older, but register early, space is limited to the first
25 paid registrants. Registration is required.

A Savannah tradition! Museums all over the area will open their doors from 12 noon until 4 p.m. and offer free admission for the day. This annual event is sponsored by the Georgia Historical Society to encourage the public to take advantage of these wonderful resources. FUNdamentals of Beekeeping Workshop

Did you know that 1/3 of everything you eat is a result of honey bee pollination? Humankind depends on these fascinating animals for food, as well as many other hive products that improve our health and wellbeing. But honey bees face many challenges in today’s world. Both hobby and professional beekeepers are needed to help maintain the populations of this vital creature. This day-long beekeeping school will seek to help advance the knowledge base of both novice and experienced beekeepers alike. So, catch the buzz and get ready for the gardening season and spring nectar flow! Open to anyone over the age of 12. Registration is required.

From the sheep’s body to the finished wool product! Observe and participate in the magical creation of a woolen shawl through all the stages of wool processing. Members of The Fiber Guild of the Savannah’s join Oatland staff and volunteers in making this traditional spring celebration fun for the whole family. The Oatland sheep will be sheared throughout the day with demonstrations of carding, spinning, dying and weaving the wool. Crafts, games, hay rides and other children’s activities as well as food concessions will be available.

This is a fun, safe, not-so-scary event for your little trick or treaters! Walk with your trickster down our friendly forest trail to meet and gather goodies from our friendly animal characters. Face painting, spooky crafts, and many more monstrous activities await your arrival! Comfortable walking shoes and costumes are encouraged. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
